Cheese Cake

She loved cheese cake. I asked her what I could get for her. She said, "I want a cheese cake." So for my birthday, I bought two - one for her and one for me. I share mine with Sarah. I'm not sure she shared with anyone.

Later, I took her a mini (6 inch) cheese cake. I told her she didn't have to share with anyone. She didn't! She told me so!

For Brooke and Kyle's wedding reception we had teeny cheese cakes. We took her about a dozen of the little bitty sweetie!

Mrs. Myrt Williams passed away on Friday. Sarah and I visited with her and the family, shortly she took her last labored breath. Just about the time we were rounding the corner near the bakery and the cheese cakes as we were grocery shopping.

Forever more Myrt Williams will be associated in my mind with cheese cake!

Mrs. Myrt this slice is for you!

This is your brain....

I have only one addiction...

I get my daily fixes from coffee, colas and tea...

Caffeine!!!

While in the hospital, I was NPO (nothing by mouth) from Monday morning until Thursday. By Tuesday afternoon, I was going into detox and withdrawal. My head was splitting from lack of its normal dosing. My first chance for a Coca Cola was with breakfast (my first and only meal at the hospital) on Thursday morning before my discharge. Yes, Coke for breakfast!

IT DIDN'T TASTE RIGHT!!!

My taste buds are still not alert after the anesthesia. Food doesn't taste the same, even now the can of Coke beside me doesn't taste right.

Metro Monday/Thursday

Not the way I wanted to spend a week's vacation. But I've done something that has been needing to happen for some time now.

Sunday Night after the first night of Vacation Bible School, I had another gall bladder attack. They will normally last about 2 to 3 hours and then it is done with. Until I eat another heavy/rich meal. We had breakfast for our VBS supper.

Biscuits
Ham
Bacon
Sausage
Saw Mill Gravy
Cheese Grits
Eggs

It hit me hard about 10:00 Sunday night. At 3:00 I was a the hospital E.R. - just after 5:00 I was back home with shot for the pain and orders to see my family doctor.

By 10:30 I was on my way to be admitted to the hospital. Ultrasound, x-rays and bloodwork.

On Tuesday, the surgeon scheduled the removal of my gall bladder.

Wednesday at 3 p.m., I was wheeled to the O.R.

Monday night, Metro came to see me!

Metro Monday

For the first time, Metro has been having a bit of trouble jumping onto the slipper bench and then onto the bed.

Saturday afternoon, Sarah and I worked on a set of steps for Metro. We cover the cypress boards with red fuzzy plush fur.

He now can easily and safely make it from the floor to the bed!

Metro Monday

Ouch, Ow, Owie!!!

Luxating Patella - that's the veterinary medical term or trick knee cap.

from Wiki:

Most cases of patellar luxation are medial and this is frequently a congenital problem in toy and miniature breed dogs. Breeds showing a predisposition for medial patellar luxation include miniature and toy poodles, Yorkshire terriers, Pomeranians, Pekingese, Chihuahuas and Boston Terriers.

Metro has been favoring his left hind leg for a couple of weeks now. And for the last couple of day he has been limping when he first gets up from a nap or after he jumps down from the bed or his favorite chair. And most likely the repeated jumping down from those height places was the cause of the problem rather than inherited from his sire and dame.

What? You don't think 18" is very high? Metro is only 8" high at the topline (that is his backbone). So comparatively speaking, you try leaping from a height of 13 feet every day, several times a day. You are going to hurt yourself too!!!

Also from Wiki:

Additional help can be given with the use of pet ramps, stairs, or steps. These can help the animal travel from one place to another, especially up and down, without adding any pain or damage to the patella.

So we will need a set of steps for the bed, the sofa AND "his recliner". He has only slowed down a little. He still get excited and runs when it is time to go outside to care for other spoiled critters that live on the farm!

Metro Monday

Meet our new fine feathered friend!!!

Decoy

Decoy is a special needs duck. He belongs to Belinda and she brought him to the farm, so he wouldn't be alone while we prepared for Kyle and Brooke's wedding last week. He needs his medicine and help getting in and out of his therapy pool.
This one came to us "pre-spoiled"!!! Like Mother, Like Daughter!

Metro and Decoy are not real sure of each other!?!

Happy 75th Anniversary

The following is taken from a term paper written by Melody Brown-Brogdon on May 5, 1987 for her high school U.S. History class. I know no better words than these:

On May 20, 1933, they were married in the home of Judge Thomas. The wedding was a small one and the dress was only a simple one without all the lace, but Mildred would have preferred it to any “fancy dress”

They never had a honeymoon, and she says she didn’t want one after they were married. They moved in with his parents...

For 75 years now, the house on the hill (or very close-by) has been her home. Maurice and Sarah were born within the walls of that simple abode. Thomas and Elton were born in the house that would have stood in front of the Goat and Chicken Pen. Only Sandra, the baby, was not born at home.

For 30 years now, Daddy Frank has been gone (May 9, 1978). I have heard her say many times, "Not a day goes by that I don't think of him".

So as Brooke and Kyle say their vows this Saturday, the best I can wish for them is to follow in the footsteps of Mildred and Frank Brown...

edit to add: While eating dinner at our house this evening, Sarah asked Mama if she knew what today was??? She didn't. But she did remember much about that day. Those that were in attendance were her father and brother Slatton, also Judge Thomas's son. Her mother and sister Catherine went to a Saturday night Prayer Meeting. It was after dark when they arrived at Judge Thomas's home. Catfish and old times, made for a great meal!!!

Metro Monday

T.R.P.

Terrapin Relocation Program

There are turtles in the Fish Pond... WE DON'T WANT TURTLES IN THE FISH POND!!!

We rode the golf cart to the Beaver Pond after church Sunday evening to fill the bird feeders. As we neared the one of the dam at the Fish Pond, we spotted the Terrapin crawling to the water. We loaded him (or her) into the one of the buckets that we use to transport our bounty of Bluegills. Onward to the Beaver Pond...

Metro is not sure of what is inside the bucket, "It doesn't smell like fishes?!?"

"I toldja, it doesn't smell like fishes!"

Metro Monday

If you drink, eventually, you gotta go!

Soon to be: The Little Shack, Out Back...

From Wiki: The Yorkie was bred as a ratter, used to kill mice and rats in small places. There is some evidence that they may have been used for hunting as well. Like most terriers developed in the early 19th Century, it was common for Yorkies to demonstrate their prowess as vermin killers in what were known as "rat pits."

Saturday afternoon, Metro demonstrated his heritage. In assembling the pipes for the outhouse, Metro must have gotten a whiff of the former residents that lived in the recycled 3" plastic pipe.

He barked and attacked the pipes the rest of the afternoon!!!

Co-Winky-Dink

I get a email today with an alert of a special event! Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream was having a Free Cone Day to celebrate their 30th birthday. Knowing that I was a least 75 miles away from the closest Ben & Jerry's, I clicked on the Tennessee link to see the stores there.

400 Main Street ~ Franklin, TN

That's got to be just down the street from Sherry's office.

So, I dial the number...

"______ Mortgage. This is Stephanie, may I help you?"

Me - "May I speak with Sherry?"

Stephanie - "May I tell her who's calling?"

Me - "This is her brother."

Stephanie - "Oh, OK. Hold, please."

Holding....

Stephanie - "She has stepped out of the office at the moment."

Me - "OK, You can actually pass a message to her. Would you mind telling her that Ben & Jerry's is having Free Cone Day?"

*Sound of Jaw Dropping*

Stephanie - "Huh, that is actually where she has gone!!!"

Me - Photobucket

Really I shouldn't be surprised... Sherry and I often think alike. Saying something to the other and hearing the reply, "That's what I think also."

A three hundred and fifty mile OBMB - One Big Mushy Brain!!!
