My Dad's Shotgun

As old as I am (plus a few months).  Bought for my Dad.  But, it was intended for me.  I waited 49 years and it was the best Christmas present I can remember.  It was rarely shot, but alway cared for... And there was one time I wished it didn't have to be fired.

My Dad's Ribbons

Purple Heart
Army Good Conduct, National Defense, Korean Service Medal
Armed Forces Reserve, United Nations Service, Republic of Korea War Service

Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Presidential Unit Citation

They were always in the bottom, left-hand drawer of the dresser.  In a plastic bag that was worn and holey, the ribbons from my Dad's army days always fascinated me.  It wasn't until much later, that I fully appreciated the meaning of each one of these colorful ribbons.

My Dad's Shirt

Simple long sleeve, button down oxford...

Al has been an employee of Tumi for nearly 16 years.  He and Sarah always had a great relationship.  He never addresses here as "Sarah" but rather "BettyWhiteMama" (all one word).   This morning, Al and I walked into the warehouse at the same time this morning.  He said, "That's a Snazzy Shirt you're wearing.  Did BettyWhiteMama pick that out for you?"

I said, "No, it belonged to my Dad.  But Sarah lets me wear it."

Al smiled!!!

My Dad's Ties

A few of the ties that belong to my Dad.

Other than Special Sundays, I don't remember seeing my Dad in a tie.  That all changed when he started working at Lentz Cee Bee in 1968.  It began with the little black, clip on bow ties on a white shirt.  That was the uniform the he and Howard Allison wore everyday.  The merger to long ties was made some years later, but the white shirt remain the standard.

Dad taught me how to tie a tie in all four knots. Windsor, Half Windsor, Shell Knot & Four-in-Hand.  I never did master the Shell Knot.  Dad's favorite was the Windsor, while I prefer the Four-in-Hand.

When Dad passed away on January 23, 2006, I made sure that the funeral director tie his grey & blue striped tie in a Windsor...

My Dad's Case XX

He could sharpen a pencil so fine that it looked like it got its point from a Boston KS sharpener.  He could make a pile of cedar shavings so thin and curly.  He would use his pocket knife to open a letter, peel an apple and cut into a box.  It was always in his pocket or on the top of the chest of drawers.  He also use it to carve our SS #'s into the stock of 20 gauge shotgun.

'Bout Time!

Millie would not quit meowing...  We had just filled the dogs' food bowl.  Millie's bowl contained plenty but the bottom of the bowl was just visible.  She was persistent.  She followed me, rub on the nearby furniture and basically made a pest of herself.  Only when I filled the stainless bowl to just overflowing was she satisfied.  The funniest thing, she didn't even eat a morsel...

Dumb Crook News

As I drove to work this morning, police were stringing POLICE LINE tape around the parking lot. Apparently, someone drove a vehicle through the front doors to gain access to the building. The parking lot was littered with the convenience store fixtures and merchandise.

Police were later able to find and pursue the suspect. He ditched the stolen car and went into a logging area on foot. Guns were found near the vehicle. A "teenager" was found in one of the logging machinery when the workers got to the woods at daybreak. It was 19° in the area this morning....

The truck that was used to enter the store was Hugh McCord's ( the Gun Store owner ). It was taken from behind the locked security fence and then driven through the gates.
