We never throw away stale bread. Old sandwich loaf bread, hot dog & hamburger buns and especially the crust from Mrs. Javene's cratering offerings. They all make wonderful fish food. From the tiniest fry to the largest catfish, they all come swarming when bake goods hit the surface.
Besides the fish in the pond, there are ducks on pond.
These ducks are spoiled rotten. They were hand raised from ducklings and would waddle from the pond to the house several times daily last summer. If noticed, Sarah and I would greet them with poultry feed. A mixture of cracked corn, rye and wheat - the feed quickly put weight on "the girls". While they don't make the journey from pond to house much anymore, they still greet us when we visit the cabin.
Ecclesiastes 11:1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. We are taught that our good deeds will ultimately benefit us.
By feeding the fish, someday they may feed us.
By feeding the duck, they give us hours of joy!!!
