Happy New Year - Message in the Wind

Our morning job was sweeping all the dogwood leaves out of the carport.   Sarah mentioned she saw something  shiny on the lane.  "Looks like a balloon is stuck in the trees".  Maddie and I jumped on the golf cart to investigate.  Sure enough a Mylar Balloon was hung in one of the scrub oak next to the property line. And there was a note attached!!!

Oh, boy!!!  The modern, land locked equivalent of a Message in a Bottle.

Way too high to retrieve with a ladder, the chainsaw was to be employed.  Puht, puht,  then the whine of the engine...  Great, I'll have this tree down in no time.

And then, the chainsaw sputtered and stopped!!!  After several more attempts, the motor was not going to fire again.  It hadn't been started in six months.  I will need to empty the tank and put in fresh oil-gas mixture.

Plan B:  AX TIME.

A length of 2" webbing attached to bumper hitch of the truck would take the little oak down and out of the briar undergrowth.

Success!!!

We were hoping to see a message with a location of origin or an email address to notify the sender a reply: "Hey, we found your balloon on New Year Day".

What we saw when we opened the note.... A list of "wishes" for the new year -  a dozen simple aspirations of some youngin'.

While we were a little disappointed with no contact information, we had fun with the anticipation!
